ABOUT ME
Freelance Android/Web Developer, travel junky, and lifter of heavy things
Freelance Android/Web Developer, travel junky, and lifter of heavy things

I got my start in programming when I was bored in math class one day and started fiddling with my TI-86 calculator's BASIC programming functions. Simple programs quickly morphed into graphic intensive games.  My math teacher was not enthused, but I was HOOKED!

For me, software development is a creative outlet.  I enjoy the craft not only of coding itself, but also delivering a great user experience. Having built many apps without the guidance of a design team, during my development I'm constantly asking "is this something I'd enjoy interacting with as a user?"

You'll enjoy working with me because I write and speak clearly, I am responsive, and I hold my work to a professional standard.

I have been programming in native Android since 2011. I started by teaching myself, building a Simpsons Trivia app as a personal project. Later, I took on a freelance project for the organizers of the World Memory Championship, building an Android app that enables its users to train for the annual event. I have recently extended that work, building a few supplemental apps, as well as redesigning the original one. I also redesigned the old Simpsons Trivia app, giving it a much-needed facelift. All my work on Android has been with native code utilizing Java (I’ve been using Java since 2006). A theme throughout my work is an attention to small UI details, especially animations, which (though subtle) really delight users. I am also actively engaged in the latest best practices in the Android world. I have used popular libraries like Dagger, Retrofit, and Butterknife. The code I write today also follows architectural best practices, carefully structuring the code in a manner that minimizes bugs, boosts clarity, and lends itself to future extension/modification.

I've worked with ASP.Net for 4.5 years, using it to build screens for a large SAAS web app. The screens were built first with Classic ASP (VBScript) and later migrated to ASP.Net MVC 4 (C#).

As a math geek, SQL just clicks with me. It's a language where you can say "I don't care how this gets done, I just want it done" and SQL figures it out...well, most of the time. I have years of experience not only in writing performant SQL, but also analyzing what's going wrong when it isn't performing well and making the necessary adjustments. I also have years of experience in designing database schemas from scratch. I have worked with Microsoft SQL Server as well as SQLite.

Did an excellent job - especially considering he had a sleep deprived, barely understandable me to work with. In spite of me both not knowing really what I wanted and barely being able to communicate, he was still able to help me with my android studio/java project. Would hire again and I recommend you do the same.

Developed a SAAS Association Management Software application using ASP.Net and MS SQL Server. The job involves working with fellow developers to squash bugs and develop new features for the platform. It also involves communicating with users of the software when they're having support issues. I also do code reviews for my teammates, and I help out with formulating processes to make the business more efficient. The whole company works 100% remote.
