Mrugesh Mohapatra

I am the Principal Maintainer of the Cloud Infrastructure and Open Source repositories at freeCodeCamp.org, a US-based 501(c)(3) public charity. I have over 5+ years of full-time experience in this position, plus an additional 3+ years of volunteer contributions during their early days. freeCodeCamp.org has several initiatives. It is a self-paced learning platform that provides online certifications in several programming and technical fields. It also provides free learning resources with a massive publication of thousands of coding and tech tutorials. It maintains the largest YouTube channel with thousands of hours of programming-related courses. My Role: As the technical architect and infrastructure lead for freeCodeCamp.org, I oversee multiple platforms (getting more than 40 million page views a month) and ensure development, integration & deployments to various public cloud services like Akamai, Cloudflare, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). I specialize in maintaining the Infrastructure-as-Code and building automation pipelines to achieve a highly available platform. I also lead project-management activities around open-source projects under the freeCodeCamp org on GitHub. I also help fill in for developer relations activities, which include working and building relationships with partners, cloud architects, and fellow contributors in the open-source community. This results in crucial decision-making around platform integrations and building project the community is interested in.

I provided technical guidance and code auditing services for the architecture and deployment of "Athena", a startup journey management platform built and managed by IKP-EDEN, a not-for-profit division of IKP Knowledge Park. I was mainly involved in systems design, architecture, planning, and the lifecycle of the pilot phase of the platform. This involved working on behalf of IKP-EDEN with vendors from the industry that built the platform or provided auditing and InfoSec services. The platform was built using Python, Next.js, Postgres, and other technologies with deployments on public cloud services like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Netlify.

I played a crucial role at Dassault Systèmes as a lead developer of 3D Web Apps on their innovative 3DExperience Platform. The platform provided immersive experiences for 3D & CAD professionals. I built functionality across various devices, including touch, non-touch, and hybrid devices in web technologies using cutting-edge web technologies like JavaScript, HTML5, WebGL, and ThreeJS, while integrating advanced 3D manipulation features within the applications. In addition to my technical contributions, I had the honor of mentoring and leading technical training sessions for certified skill-up programs to enable the development of web applications for the 3DExperience platform in-house. Being part of such a vibrant and inventive team was extremely gratifying, and I am excited about the limitless potential of this cutting-edge technology.
