Hi, my name is Francisco, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help you. I love playing and working with technology, and I still remember with joy the day when I ran my very first Fortran program—a lifetime ago. I started with Fortran IV G/H on IBM /370 mainframes in 1975, then moved on to Cobol, Basic, PL/I, ASM/370, Algol, Pascal, Lisp, ASM x86, C, dBase, Clipper, C++, Mathematica, REXX, VB, VBA, HTML & CSS, SQL, VB .Net, C# .Net, PHP, Javascript, Python, and others. I haven't stopped yet. Within Information Technology, I have done it all: from scientific programming to business systems; from operating systems (drivers and internals) to compiler development; from websites and online applications to automated trading systems; from macro languages' automation routines to neural networks and other machine learning algorithms; and many other things. I love learning new paradigms and have a very broad range of interests. Being older than most people around here affords me something invaluable: experience. And of that, I have a lot. Please, allow me to share it with you. Some of my most recent public work can be seen at the following websites: www.solcentral.com.br, fws.fortuna.com.br, and www.fortuna.com.br. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Hi! Areas where I help people learning to develop software: • Syntax, structure, debugging… everything from basics upwards. • #define constants and macros, stringizer operator etc. • Optimising for speed, memory etc. • Dynamic memory allocation and its pitfalls. I was a developer for 16 years (Panasonic, Quantel, Nokia, McLaren etc), then went into leadership and management. I still love to sit in front of a page of code and work on it and see it come to life. I’m very familiar with all the joys of coding, and also with the frustrations. I'm familiar with whole lifecycle from requirements analysis to maintenance in field, so I understand the context in which your SW creations might sit. Beyond the basics, some areas where I can help are: • Differences between writing code at school/college and in industry. In industry, your code might be maintained and changed by a dozen developers over the next 10-15 years, and you can write code in a style which means it will keep working the way you want it to. • Maintaining legacy code - this is very different from “green field” development in that you might inherit 1M lines of somebody else’s code and need to get your head around it, maintain it, debug it. For 10 years I worked in a very large Defence company and ran the Mentoring scheme, so I’ve arranged lots of mentoring but I’ve also had many mentees and a few mentors myself. I’m looking forward to talking to people about code and how it works, passing on my advice and learning from you too. I'm an avid supporter of D&I so I enjoy meeting, well, everyone. :-) Looking forward to working with you.

“Amazing is the one word that I would utilize to use this person. You were so patient and calm with my slowness in learning, and you were able to help so much in my problems. You not only took the time out to explain where the problems were stemming from, but how to resolve them and what I could do in the future. I 100 percent will contact you again if I have any issues or if anybody has any questions I would hands down recommend to you.“

“Kian hopped on quickly and we got right down to business. He was great. He did not start the clock until after a quick get-to-know-you. We coded up a couple of quick tests to find out what was wrong with my React/MERN app on Render hosting. Fortunately we solved it. Unfortunately it all boiled down to a mistake that Render should fix (Extra space(s) in rewrite rules will not be trimmed and will break your site, even though the build appears successful). Once the issue was solved he stopped the clock immediately, even though he still wanted to look at a few things to ensure that we had solved it. I thought that was super kind. Great guy. Easy. Cool. Laid back. Smart, and clearly experienced.“
